SALT Mission S.A.L.T. is a ministry of Rainbow Forest Baptist Church and Home Educators of Rainbow Forest (HERF)OUR PURPOSE:Our purpose is to find a common ground between homeschooling and traditional classroom settings, allowing our students to experience the social interaction and instruction of a Christ-centered school one to two days per week while allowing our parents to retain control of their childrens education throughout the rest of the week. We focus on core curriculum for grades K 12. We also offer nursery care and pre-school for those with additional younger children if enough children are enrolled.Since this is a co-op where homeschooling parents cooperate together to teach classes of homeschooled students, it is imperative that each family have one parent who is willing to teach two classes and assist in other classes throughout the day.Currently our classes being offered include science and social studies for all ages with language arts in most grade levels. The number and variety of subjects offered is flexible and will change as the size and needs of our co-op change. SALT meets at the Rainbow Forest Baptist Church on Mondays for two 17-week semesters. FEESThe fee for involvement in S.A.L.T. is currently $160 per year or $80 per semester, per family. $80 for the 1st semester will be due immediately pending acceptance following an interview and the remaining $80 will be due on orientation night. Fees are nonrefundable. Each family will also be responsible for purchasing all of the curriculum and supplies required for their childs classes. If for some reason a current member family does not actively participate in S.A.L.T. the following year, they may pay a fee of $25 per year due at the end of the current school year. The family will then have an inactive status. This will enable the family to hold their place in the co-op. However, if the inactive fee is not paid, the familys membership will be terminated. Terminating membership entitles that family to one and only one reapplication for membership at a future date. Also, due to the strong commitment needed of each family to run an effective co-op there is a fee of $250.00 for withdrawing during the contract year.

Statement of Faith

1. We believe the Bible is the written Word of God and it is infallible, inerrant, and authoritative in matters of faith and practice.

2. We believe in the Trinity of God; God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. They are co-equal in their nature and attributes.

3. We believe in the virgin birth, the perfect life, the vicarious death, the bodily resurrection, and visible return of Jesus Christ.

4. We believe salvation is by grace through faith, nothing more, nothing less.

5. We believe in the eternal security and preservation of the saved.

6. We believe the Church is a local autonomous body of baptized believers covenanted together to carry out the commands of Christ.

7. We believe these two ordinances: Baptism by immersion and the Lord's Supper to commemorate His sacrifice for us.

8. We believe that born-again believers should live holy and dedicated lives unto the Lord.

9. We believe in a Heaven for the saved and a Hell for the lost.

10. We believe in the pre-millennial return of Jesus Christ.

SALT is a Christian organization. All members must agree with the basic Statement of Faith as set forth under the headship of Rainbow Forest Baptist Church.

About Us Studying And Learning TogetherS.A.L.T. is a homeschool co-op located at Rainbow Forest Baptist Church near Roanoke in Botetourt County. Our purpose is to find a common ground between homeschooling and traditional classroom settings, allowing our students to experience the social interaction and instruction of a Christ-centered school one day per week, while allowing our parents to retain control of their children's education throughout the rest of the week. We focus primarily on core curriculum for grades K - 12. We also offer nursery care and preschool for those with additional younger children if enough children are enrolled. The number and variety of subjects offered is flexible according to the size and needs of our enrollment. It is our policy to limit class size to 10 students, keeping the student to teacher ratio low. Combined grades may have more students with extra teachers if necessary.SALT meets at Rainbow Forest Baptist Church on Mondays beginning in August for two 17-week semesters. Since this is a co-op where homeschooling parents cooperate together to teach classes of homeschooled students, it is imperative that each family have a minimum of one parent participating. This parent will be expected to attend co-op every week and lead teach two classes (this is a maximum number- may be less) and assist in other areas as needed throughout the day. Classes previously offered at SALT: 1st grade--History, Science/Health, art, P.E., Unit studies that included history, science & art 2nd grade--History, Science/Health, P.E., Art /Music Appreciation., Unit studies that included history, science & art 3rd grade--Easy Grammar, Science, U.S Geography, History, Unit studies that included history, science & art 4th grade--Virginia History, Easy Grammar, Science, Spanish, Unit studies that included history, science & art 5th grade--Science, Easy Grammar, Health, History, Spanish6th grade--Science, Eng. from Roots Up, Easy Grammar, History7th grade--U.S. & World History, Life Science, Health, Grammar/Writing8th grade--Ancient History, Science, Writing/Grammar, Logic/Word Roots9th grade--Med. History, Physical Science, Spanish I, Art, Health with CPR certification10th grade--US History, Apologia Biology, Spanish I, World Geography, Geometry11th grade--American Lit., Apologia Chemistry, SAT Prep, Speech/Debate12th grade--English Lit., Government, Economics, Spanish II, Consumer MathThe writing program currently used for 5th grade and up is The Institute for Excellence in Writing.(Note: this is not necessarily the courses that will be offered- just a general guideline.) Classes for the upcoming year are presently being determined by the SALT board and current members of SALT.
